Fishing and fish processing
One of the leading fishing ports on Denmark
With close proximity to some of the best fishing grounds in the North Sea and Skagerrak, Port of Hanstholm is an attractive landing port and a preferred port for both Danish and international fishing vessels. the port is home to one of Europe's largest fishing clusters, which helps ensure professional processing and export of fish for consumption.
Fish for consumption
Consumer fishing is a large and important business area at Port of Hanstholm. Every day, large quantities of fish for consumption are brought to the port by Danish and foreign fishing vessels.
Located close to some of the best fishing grounds in the North Sea, Port of Hanstholm is an attractive landing port with a wide range of maritime services and a strong cluster of processing and export companies. This makes the port one of Europe's leading consumer fishing ports.
The majority of the fish landed for consumption is sea-packed fish, which is sorted, cleaned and packed on board. Therefore, when the fish is landed, it is completely ready to be auctioned. Hanstholm Fish Auction is one of Europe's leading fish auctions and annually sells approximately 40,000 tons of fish to buyers throughout Europe

Fish processing companies
More than 20 fish processing companies are located in and around Port of Hanstholm . Most of them buy fish at Hanstholm Fish Auction, which they prepare for export according to the customer's wishes. While some fish are packed whole, others are cut up. All handling is of course done in an unbroken cold chain, from start to finish.
"The biggest advantage of being present on Port of Hanstholm is the fish auction's strong position in terms of quantities and supply of fish. If you work with fish for consumption, everything is here. The opportunity for exporters is to be part of a port with great development potential. Even though the development of Port of Hanstholm is probably also happening on other parameters than fish".

Transit Fish
Port of Hanstholm has quay facilities with good access for trucks transporting catches directly from the port. Port of Hanstholm is used as a transit port for fishing vessels from a number of European countries, where sea-packed fish is loaded directly onto trucks and transported to e.g. fish auctions or producers in the vessels' home towns.
Optimized logistics and infrastructure
The short distance to Europe makes Port of Hanstholm ideal for fast collection of freshly landed fish. Good infrastructure creates efficient logistics so that high-quality raw materials can be unloaded quickly and gently and transported in an unbroken cold chain from ship to truck.

Aquaculture
Port of Hanstholm houses two fish farms. One farm raises eels, while the other raises the tuna species yellowtail kingfish, which is suitable for sushi and sashimi.
At Port of Hanstholm , the supply of fish does not only come via Quay. The two aquaculture companies Nordic Kingfish and Royal Danish Fish raise quality fish in fish farms on land.
For land-based aquaculture, it is crucial to have access to large sites with expansion possibilities, the possibility of connecting to good quality seawater and wastewater discharge permits. At Port of Hanstholm , all factors are possible.

A good place for landing of industrial fish
Port of Hanstholm has good facilities for landing, handling and transportation of industrial fish, also known as protein fish.
With safe entry conditions and good unloading facilities, Port of Hanstholm is a good and efficient landing point for industrial fish used in the production of fishmeal and fish oil.
Port of Hanstholm has built a separate Quay with infrastructure for landing industrial fish, so both large fishing vessels and smaller day boats can land their catches efficiently.
From Hanstholm, industrial fish can easily be transported to nearby processing plants at FF Skagen A/S or TripleNine A/S.
